The formation of MDES was initiated by Johnson & Johnson Sdn Bhd with a group of panel trainers of the ASEAN Diabetes Educators Program led by Prof Dr. Amir Khir Sharifuddin in 2004.
MDES pro tem committee was formed under the leadership of Puan Hermine Jeremiah, Dr. Mastura Bt Ismail, Wong Yoke Lian and other committee members with advice from Emeritus Prof. Dato’ Dr Mustaffa Embong in 2004.
In addition, Emeritus Prof Dato’ Dr. Mustaffa Embong also granted permission to MDES on using the National Diabetes Institute’s address as MDES’ initial official registry address.
The Malaysian Diabetes Educators Society was officially registered on 29th May 2007 as a National Non-Governmental Organization in Malaysia.
The Malaysian Diabetes Educators Society is one of the leading Malaysian organizations for healthcare professionals providing diabetes education and management.
MDES aims to improve the quality of life for people affected by diabetes, as well as those who are at risk, by enhancing self-management skills through education and public awareness.
