MDES had signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Action4Diabetes (A4D), a UK-registered charity dedicated to giving health and hope to disadvantaged young people living with Type 1 Diabetes (T1D) in South-East Asia, to help expand digital educational resources for people with Type 1 Diabetes in the country.
The Malaysian Diabetes Educators Society’s (MDES) President, Ms Yong Lai Mee put pen to paper on 11th December 2021 , beginning the implementation of our HelloType1 resource platform into local language.
HelloType1 is A4D’s digital education platform for the T1D community in South-East Asia. It is the first local-language resource of its kind in the region.
The agreement also highlights Healthcare Capacity Building as an area for collaboration and marks a significant step forward for the charity in the country.
The two organisations share the long-term ambition of improving the quality of life for people affected by Type 1 Diabetes. Both know the key to achieving this is empowering the T1D community through enhanced self-management skills and education, which this agreement will deliver.
Objectives of the MoU agreement:
Raise awareness about the burden of T1D and the consequences of this disease
Improve patient empowerment and family support for better diabetes outcomes
Strengthen healthcare capacity at local and regional levels of South-East Asia
Develop epidemiology data set to establish insights and clinical and quality of life measures
